Details About the Contract Soldier Who Died Yesterday: 'His Consciousness Was Normal, He Spoke With Family Members'
The contract soldier who died yesterday due to burns sustained from a fire in a combat position trailer was Palyan Poghosyan from the Azatana community of Akhuryan.
The deputy mayor of the Akhuryan community, Vardan Ikilikyan, shared in an interview with “Paxinfo” that Palyan Poghosyan was scheduled to be discharged from service next spring. He was studying at the Gyumri State Economic University but had left his studies to join the military.
According to the deputy mayor, Palyan Poghosyan had two sisters and lived with his family. “They are a middle-income, normal family with well-educated children. He was active, attractive in appearance, and sociable. The officers also mentioned that he was very beloved by both the soldiers and commanders,” Ikilikyan recounted.
He noted that an internal investigation is underway regarding the incident. “They were in their shift trailer, but they say that only one mattress burned in the trailer. They were transferred to the hospital from the positions, and later he was moved to Yerevan. He had been receiving treatment for ten days, his condition had stabilized, and his consciousness was normal; he had spoken with his family over the phone. However, his condition worsened in the last few days,” said the deputy mayor.
It is worth mentioning that on July 25, the Ministry of Defense reported that on July 17, contract soldier Palyan Poghosyan was admitted to the Zangezur garrison hospital with second-degree thermal burns. According to the Ministry of Defense, he was transferred to the National Burns Center on the same day.
The Ministry of Defense noted that the soldier sustained his injuries due to a fire caused by a stove spark. Public figure Karapet Poghosyan has announced that there are rumors that the soldier sustained burns due to the burning of trash by the enemy. “Please confirm or deny the news,” wrote human rights activist and public figure Karapet Poghosyan on his Facebook page.
