Yerevan: "Ancient Land of Azerbaijan" - Aliyev's Latest Deception

The President of Azerbaijan, I. Aliyev, signed an order on July 14 to officially celebrate the 140th anniversary of the State Azerbaijani Drama Theater in Yerevan. This was reported by the Armenian Channel.

On December 10, 2020, during a parade in Baku, President Ilham Aliyev stated that Yerevan, Lake Sevan, and Syunik are "historical Azerbaijani territories".

However, this was not the first statement of its kind. The Azerbaijani authorities have systematically injected the thesis of the Armenian historical territories being under Azerbaijani ownership into their society, a process accompanied by the creation of maps depicting Syunik, Sevan, and Yerevan as parts of Azerbaijan, along with the execution of corresponding historical falsifications.

The use of the terms "Eastern Zangezur" and "Western Zangezur" in the official rhetoric of the Azerbaijani authorities can be regarded as a vivid manifestation of territorial claims against Armenia.

These and similar statements, events, and initiatives by Azerbaijan are attempts to legitimize not only the occupation of more than 70 square kilometers of the Republic of Armenia's sovereign territory by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces since November 2020 but also to prepare the ground for new Azerbaijani aggression against Syunik region and other sovereign territories of Armenia, potentially leading to complete occupation.
