Patriarch of Constantinople on Pashinyan-Erdogan Phone Conversation
The Patriarch of Constantinople has welcomed the phone conversation that took place yesterday between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Turkey.
Archbishop Sahak Mashalian elaborated on his Twitter page, stating: “The phone conversation between President Erdogan and Prime Minister Pashinyan was a festive gift that flourished our hopes for peace in our world, which is distressed by news of war. I pray that diplomatic peaceful means prevail, rather than weapons, wars, and deaths. I wish that this phone conversation will be a reason to open a new friendly chapter in the millennium-old Armenian-Turkish relations.”
Garo Paylan, an Armenian MP in the Turkish parliament, also commented on the Pashinyan-Erdogan phone conversation: “I hope that the phone conversation between President Erdogan and Prime Minister Pashinyan will accelerate the ongoing normalization process between the two countries,” he tweeted.
Yesterday, the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Turkey spoke on the phone for the first time. Yerevan and Ankara released identical statements, stating that Nikol Pashinyan and Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated each other on the occasions of Kurban Bayram and Vardavar, emphasizing the importance of the normalization process in Armenian-Turkish relations, which will contribute to the strengthening of peace and stability in the region.
