Combat Lasers to Be Tested
The American Northrop Grumman Corp military company will conduct testing of a prototype combat laser with gradual power enhancement by the end of this year. The development of the combat laser prototype has cost the Pentagon $72 million, according to a report by Reuters.
The lasers will have defensive significance. With combat lasers, it will be possible to track and concentrate energy on moving targets, allowing for application in the field of missile defense. The laser systems are intended to protect ground troops from aircraft and drones.
