Finland to Build Fence Along Border with Russia

Finland will construct a fence along its border with Russia. This was reported by MTV3.

“It is necessary to close off a large part of the contact zone. This is a significant change for Finland, and it should be viewed at a more serious level,” said Marko Turunen, the commander of the North Karelia Border Guard.

As he noted, border barriers are set to be installed in “high-risk” areas, that is, at border crossing points and in nearby areas. It is reported that the total length of the border between Finns and Russians is 1340 km. Currently, the border between the two countries is only conditionally divided by a small fence made of nets and barbed wire.
