VIDEO: Azerbaijan Constructing Tunnel Bypassing Artsakh Under Mount Mrav
Azerbaijan is constructing an 11.6 km long tunnel connecting Ganja and Kelbajar. The tunnel will pass under Mount Mrav and is set to be one of the longest tunnels in the world.
Since the end of the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War, Azerbaijan has faced issues regarding direct communication with the Kelbajar region. According to Radar Armenia, prior to the war, the only road leading to Kelbajar passed through the Martakert district. Currently, the Martakert road still exists, but it goes through the Armenian-controlled area of Nagorno-Karabakh, where Armenian and Russian troops are stationed.
There is another route from the north, but it is nearly impassable during the winter months and traverses the Mrav mountain range. Construction of the tunnel began in 2021 and is expected to be operational by 2025. The length of the tunnel will be 11,658 meters and it will directly connect Ganja to Kelbajar.
