Zakharova Responds to State Department Statement with Britney Spears Lyrics

The spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, commented on the statements from the State Department regarding a potential meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Interestingly, Zakharova quoted lyrics from a hit song by American singer Britney Spears, as well as some lines from her own work.

Earlier, State Department spokesperson Ned Price stated that the United States would like Russia to create an opportunity for a bilateral meeting between Lavrov and Blinken; however, he noted that the timing is not right.

In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry declared that there are no preparations underway for a ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Indonesia.

“Ned, your statement resembles the lyrics of Britney Spears' 'Baby One More Time,'” Zakharova wrote, quoting several lines from the song. In this part, the singer laments, “My loneliness is killing me, I must confess, I still believe, When I'm not with you I lose my mind, Give me a sign, Hit me baby one more time.”

“And I will respond with my own words from 'June Song' (the text was written by Zakharova)... June has ended, your power is weakening, I will fly from this lie,” she added, quoting lines in English from the song.
