Congressmen Demand Report on Azerbaijan's Actions
U.S. Congressmen Tony Cardenas and Brad Sherman have presented an amendment to the 2023 budget appropriations for national security, calling on the Department of Defense, in consultation with the State Department, to submit a report to Congress regarding Azerbaijan's actions during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. According to Armenpress, this information was provided by the U.S. Armenian National Committee.
Specifically, the Congressmen have requested that the report include whether American-made equipment was used in the Turkish drones employed by Azerbaijan against Armenia and Artsakh in 2020. Additionally, the report should provide information on Azerbaijan's use of white phosphorus, cluster bombs, and other prohibited munitions against Artsakh, as well as the involvement of foreign terrorist mercenaries by Turkey and Azerbaijan during the war.
The aforementioned 837 amendment has garnered support from nearly a dozen Congress members. The U.S. Armenian National Committee has stated that they are making significant efforts to increase the number of supporters for the 837 amendment during discussions in the House Rules Committee next week. If the amendments to the national security appropriations bill are approved in the committee, they will then proceed to a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.
