VIDEO: Lyova Gevorgyan is the Champion of Europe
Armenian freestyle wrestler Lyova Gevorgyan has claimed another gold medal at the ongoing European Youth Wrestling Championships in Rome. Our 125 kg wrestler won his final match early by defeating Georgian Merab Suleymanashvili. In the first round, the opponent offered some resistance to the Armenian athlete, scoring 5:2, but in the second round, Lyova Gevorgyan earned 8 points in just 10 seconds and celebrated a clear victory. He was crowned the European champion.
Overall, our team won a total of 5 medals: 3 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. With these achievements, Armenia secured first place in the standings. Gold medals were also claimed by individual delegations from Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, France, Italy, Turkey, and Azerbaijan. In the team competition, the Armenian national team finished in a prestigious second place, conceding to the Georgian team, which despite having only one champion, won a total of 8 medals. Ukraine rounded out the top three.
