Cause of Death Revealed for Patient Who Underwent Pig Heart Transplant

In January, 57-year-old David Bennett underwent a pig heart transplant. A few months later, the man has passed away. An autopsy has revealed that the cause of death was stiffening of the heart muscle, which prevented it from functioning properly. Additionally, the transplanted organ was found to contain porcine cytomegalovirus. Experts plan to enhance the monitoring of infections in donor organs for upcoming surgeries.

It is worth noting that news of David Bennett's death after the heart transplant was reported in March. Following the surgery, the patient had shown signs of recovery. However, days before his death, his condition began to deteriorate rapidly.
