Mass protests have erupted in Uzbekistan. The cause is constitutional reforms that eliminate the autonomy of the country’s largest region, Karakalpakstan. If the constitutional changes are ultimately adopted, this area will lose its right to secede from Uzbekistan. This information has been reported by local Telegram channels.

Today, the opposition leader and lawyer, Tazhymuratov, announced that he had agreed with the authorities to hold a peaceful rally on July 5. Following this announcement, he, along with his family, was taken away by unidentified individuals in civilian clothing.

The public spontaneously began to take to the streets, demanding the immediate release of the opposition leader. A significant number of police forces have been deployed to disperse the crowd.

Later, the protesters succeeded in securing the release of the opposition politician.
