What Will Happen If There Is A Large-Scale War Between Russia and NATO? NATO Sets Its Objectives

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has called on Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine, stating that the alliance will continue to support the authorities in Kyiv. This position was expressed today at a press conference following the NATO summit in Madrid, as reported by TASS.

“Today we have made a decision to support Ukraine to ensure that it remains an independent and sovereign European state,” said the Secretary General. In his opinion, Russia “must withdraw its forces and end the conflict.”

NATO has set itself the objective of preventing a direct confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, the consequences of which would be immeasurable, Stoltenberg stated.

“If there is a large-scale war between Russia and NATO, we will see much greater suffering and devastation. Therefore, NATO has two tasks: one is to provide assistance to Ukraine, but we are also obligated to prevent escalation beyond Ukraine’s borders. Thus, NATO is not a party to the conflict,” he said.

“We are not part of the conflict, and we have significantly increased our presence in the eastern part of the alliance to eliminate Moscow's erroneous calculations regarding our readiness to defend every inch of NATO territory. That is our primary duty,” Stoltenberg added.
