Number of Injuries from Electric Scooters High: YSMU Rector Provides Details
Approximately 40 citizens have been hospitalized due to injuries from electric scooters in the past three months alone. This was reported by Armen Muradyan, the rector of Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU), on his Facebook page.
“Worrying statistics: around 40 citizens have been transported to the university hospital due to injuries from electric scooters in just the last three months. Recently, you can see many people riding electric scooters in Yerevan. The ‘Heratsi’ number 1 university hospital has been receiving numerous injured citizens who have been involved in accidents while riding these scooters. Riders sustain various bodily injuries when they encounter obstacles or collide with other vehicles,” Muradyan stated.
There have been instances where two or three people were riding on a scooter at once, leading to loss of control and collisions with parked or moving cars. While electric scooters are an environmentally friendly, convenient, and affordable mode of transport that can swiftly navigate traffic jams, the potential dangers are often overlooked. Therefore, I believe that certain regulations should be implemented to address this issue,” he added.
