Video: NSS Reveals Attempt to Smuggle 3025.76 Grams of Opium from Armenia
The Directorate for Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the National Security Service of Armenia reported that on June 20, 2022, 3025.76 grams of opium were discovered hidden in the flat sides of a cardboard box in a shipment intended for Australia, which was handed over to Haypost LLC by an Iranian citizen identified as B.Z.
According to the NSS, B.Z. was apprehended the same day at the Meghri border crossing on the Armenia-Iran border. It was revealed that he had conspired with another Iranian citizen to illegally smuggle a particularly large quantity of opium out of Armenia. However, their attempt was thwarted due to the proactive measures taken by NSS personnel.
B.Z. has been charged under the relevant articles of the Armenian Criminal Code, and remand imprisonment has been applied as a preventive measure. Necessary investigative and procedural actions are underway to uncover all circumstances of the case, as well as to identify other individuals involved in the criminal scheme and prevent the execution of their illicit intents.
Notice: Smuggling of particularly large quantities of narcotics is punishable by imprisonment for up to 12 years according to the Armenian Criminal Code.
