VIDEO. Armenian Trucks at Lars Don't Know What to Do as Products Spoil, Says Zohrebyan
The Lars checkpoint is indefinitely closed due to flooding. Trucks from Armenia, primarily loaded with apricots, are unsure of what to do as the apricots begin to spoil. Former MP Naira Zohrebyan has commented on the emergency situation in Lars:
“By the way, $8,000 has been paid for each truck. I understand that everyone is busy with the ‘most relevant’ topic regarding Nikol’s pen, but our compatriots need help. Incidentally, the Georgian border guards have advised turning back, as there is no forecast for when the Lars checkpoint will reopen.
It is clear that, at least in the near future, the private sector will not be buying apricots from farmers for export to Russia, which were previously sold for 200 drams per kilogram. The ‘most popular’ government of Armenia must organize and purchase apricots directly from the rural communities, and allocate special areas for selling apricots in Yerevan and other locations. Otherwise, agricultural enterprises that are under debt will go bankrupt completely, and in a month’s time, according to the UN’s ‘Hunger Map,’ there will be 200,000 more starving people in Armenia than currently indicated at 500,000.”
