Papikyan and Shoigu to Meet

On June 24, in Moscow, Armenia's Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan participated in the regular meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS member states, according to the Ministry of Defense.

More than 20 issues were discussed on the agenda, including international military-political developments and the growing dangers and challenges for the security environment of the CIS member states. The participants also discussed a number of issues related to the formation of a humanitarian demining engineering joint unit, deepening cooperation in the military education sector, improving communication among the armed forces of CIS member states, as well as legal and organizational works necessary for the establishment of a unified air defense system.

The activity program of the council for 2023 was also agreed upon. As a result of the meeting, all decisions of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS member states were signed, as well as a joint statement dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS.

Taking into account the rich agenda of Armenian-Russian military cooperation and the allied nature of the relations, an additional agreement was reached to organize a meeting between the Armenian Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan and the Russian Minister of Defense, Army General Sergey Shoigu in Moscow in August.
