ID Card Mandatory for Participation in Elections

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, while addressing the ongoing digitalization reforms in the country, stated that citizens must possess identification (ID) cards to participate in elections.

"I want to remind you that we currently have several electoral documents, including passports, ID cards, and biometric passports. It is essential for us to have identification cards, and for polling stations to have devices to read these cards, in order to completely eliminate any concerns regarding manipulation," the Prime Minister emphasized.

According to Pashinyan, the registration with an ID card and inclusion in the electronic system will exclude the possibility of double voting. The acquisition of ID cards will also contribute to the accuracy of voter lists.

As per the Prime Minister, only individuals who personally present themselves at passport offices and apply for these cards, or those who have already received and are utilizing them for various transactions in Armenia, will have identification cards.
