VIDEO: Cities Flooded Due to Heavy Rains in China
In Jiangxi province, China, relentless heavy rains have resulted in cities being submerged underwater. Up to half a million people are reported to be affected. A red alert, the highest level of danger, was declared on Monday due to the floods caused by torrential rains, according to Xinhua news agency.
The Changjiang and Xiuhe rivers have overflowed their banks. Over the next four days, a rise in water levels in China's largest freshwater lake is forecasted, exceeding critical thresholds. More than 485,000 people have been impacted by the devastating weather.
“The floods caused by heavy rains have forced authorities to evacuate over 160,000 people from disaster zones, with at least one local resident reported dead. Tens of thousands of hectares of agricultural land have been flooded,” the publication reports.
