Prosecutor General's Office on Scandalous Recording
The suspended president of the Supreme Judicial Council, Ruben Vardazaryan, has released a recording involving Acting President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Gagik Jhangiryan. In the recording, Jhangiryan discusses Prime Minister Pashinyan's suggestion that Vardazaryan resign from his position at the beginning of 2021. Additionally, Jhangiryan touches upon criminal cases related to Ruben Vardazaryan.
In this regard, the Prosecutor General’s media advisor, Gor Abrahamyan, issued a statement during a press conference, saying: ‘Today, Ruben Vardazaryan published a recording related to certain circumstances of the criminal case against him. Following continuous monitoring of media and online information resources by the Prosecutor General's office, this recording has been brought to light, and the potential illegal interference in the criminal prosecution process against Ruben Vardazaryan has been sent to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia for thorough, objective, and comprehensive verification through criminal procedural procedures. It is noteworthy that the investigation in the discussed criminal case against R. Vardazaryan was conducted by a former investigator of the Special Investigative Service of the Republic of Armenia, who is currently working at the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia, and this criminal case was initiated based on a report from the current acting deputy director of the NSS (National Security Service).’
He also noted that proper publicity concerning all circumstances related to the verified episode has been ordered.
Regarding the claims made by Mr. Vardazaryan during the press conference about the possibility of the current Prosecutor General leading the Supreme Judicial Council after the end of his term, I must clarify that such a matter has not been discussed with Arthur Davtyan.’
