Prison Guards Rape Women and Monitor Them While They Undress and Dress: Alarm Raised

Women in prisons may face various forms of violence, including rape by guards, coercion to provide sexual services, and sexualized touches. Female inmates often also endure humiliating and invasive body searches. Advocates for women's rights raised concerns today regarding the issue of gender-based violence against incarcerated women in penal institutions and psychiatric facilities, according to Aravot.am.

The research was conducted by the Center for Human Rights Research (CHRR). Sociologist Shushan Ghahriyan stated that acts of violence against female inmates represent a violation of their right to privacy, as guards abuse the ability to keep women within their field of vision by monitoring them while they disrobe and dress, shower, use the toilet, or undergo medical examinations.
