Joining NATO Is a Privilege: Turkey Announces Conditions for Member States

Joining NATO is not an unconditional right of any country, but a privilege that comes with obligations. This was stated by Fahrettin Altun, head of the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidency, at a conference held in Brussels.

“We must not forget that joining NATO is not an unconditional right of any state; it is a privilege granted to those countries that demonstrate their loyalty to the principles of the alliance,” he said.

Altun emphasized that new associate members should not harm the alliance, the legitimate interests of member countries, and their security.
