VIDEO: Major Fire at a Gazprom Gas Field Caused by Pipeline Rupture
A fire has broken out at Gazprom's largest gas field in Russia located in Yamal. According to reports from Readovka, a video has been released showing the incident. This morning, June 16, a fire ignited in a gas pipeline within the Urengoy gas field area in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
A 1.4-meter diameter pipeline ruptured in the section between 7-8 gas fields within the Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy section. The flames have soared to dozens of meters in height and are visible from a distance.
The press service of Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy has reported that local emergency services personnel and six units of special equipment from the Ministry of Emergency Situations have been dispatched to extinguish the fire. "The fire has already been contained. Efforts are underway in normal mode," commented the press service.
The Urengoyskoye field is one of the largest in the world, with recoverable reserves amounting to up to 10 trillion cubic meters of gas.
