Fine Amounts Reduced: Administrative Liability for Drivers without Insurance to be Eased
Deputies from the ruling faction of the National Assembly, Armen Khachatryan, Kristine Poghosyan, and Lilit Kirakosyan, have introduced a legislative proposal. The administrative liability for drivers without mandatory insurance will be eased.
“This draft has reduced the fine amount fourfold, which will alleviate the social burden while also ensuring the legal effectiveness of fighting violations,” said Deputy Armen Khachatryan during a National Assembly session while presenting the proposed amendments to the “Code of Administrative Offences.”
He noted that the current code stipulates a fine of 5,000 drams for drivers without insurance for every 10-day period. However, the total annual amount of fines cannot exceed 100,000 drams. The presented draft proposes to set the maximum amount at 50,000 drams instead of 100,000.
The proposal allows drivers to sign an insurance contract within 24 hours after receiving the fine notice and present it to the authorized body, thereby only needing to pay 75% of the imposed fine.
“This way, we provide citizens the opportunity to direct the amount intended for the fine towards signing a contract, enabling them to have insurance and at the same time free themselves from liability,” Armen Khachatryan stated.
