EU Calls on Serbia to Quickly Join Decisions Against Russia

The European Parliament's (EP) international affairs committee has adopted a report urging Serbian authorities to urgently align with the European Union's decisions against Russia. This was reported in the EP's press release.

"The report, adopted with 50 votes in favor, 5 against, and three abstentions, expresses deep regret that Serbia has not joined the EU's sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and it urges the newly elected authorities to swiftly join the EU's measures against Russia," it states.

Additionally, as mentioned in the report, it "welcomes the fact that EU membership remains Serbia's strategic objective." However, the lawmakers express regret over the lack of progress and the presence of setbacks in areas that are fundamental to the country's accession to the EU.

Committee members call on Serbia to make progress in the areas of rule of law, fundamental rights, freedom of expression, media pluralism, and normalizing relations with Kosovo.

The report will be presented for a vote in the plenary session of the EP in July, as reported by RIA Novosti.
