Armenia Occupies a Special Place: Kopirkin on Armenia-Russia Relations
During a state reception on the occasion of Russia Day, Sergey Kopirkin, the ambassador of Russia to Armenia, stated that Armenia occupies a special place among our friends and allies due to the historically brotherly and allied relations.
"This year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance. Over these decades, collaboration between our countries has been characterized by intensive, reliable, and high-level political dialogue, as well as active interaction among various ministries and agencies. Economic ties have consistently developed and continue to evolve; according to 2021 results, trade turnover has exceeded pre-pandemic levels and amounted to about $2.6 billion. Russia maintains its positions as Armenia’s main and reliable economic and investment partner. Our cultural, educational, and humanitarian cooperation is also expanding. Effective bilateral cooperation in the field of security, both regional and international, is of key importance. Our countries actively cooperate on international platforms and within the framework of common integration units, such as the EEU, CSTO, and CIS," the ambassador said.
Kopirkin emphasized that Russia actively supports and will continue to support everything that contributes to creating a foundation for peaceful and secure development in the South Caucasus region. According to him, Russia, in close cooperation with its partners, is conducting persistent and intense work on solving regional issues aimed at both opening transport and economic connections and improving Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, as well as forming normal, full relations between Armenia and Turkey.
