“Mom, make my bed, I’m going to sleep, I’m cold” – After a dream, a mother finds her son’s remains on the ground at the Abovyan morgue
“Ma’am, make my bed, I’m going to sleep, I’m tired and cold…”: After a dream, a mother found her son's remains on the ground of the Abovyan morgue in a bag. This was reported on Facebook by Taguhi Tovmasyan, a member of the National Assembly from the ‘I Have Honor’ faction and the chairwoman of the permanent commission on human rights protection and public affairs.
She also noted, “The fact that the remains and bodies of fallen soldiers were kept in the basement of the Abovyan morgue became known to the public on May 31, 2021, when the relatives shared terrifying footage showing the bodies thrown on the ground in polyethylene bags.”
“I remind you that the Ministry of Health of Armenia confirmed this information, stating that the remains have undergone appropriate identification and are awaiting collection for burial by relatives.”
“As recently as February of this year, I was approached by the parents and relatives of soldiers who died or went missing during the 44-day war launched by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, who expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision of the investigative body regarding the failure to pursue a criminal case for improperly storing the remains and bodies at the forensic examination department of Kotayk Province’s forensic center.”
“I have been dealing with this issue for months, having had formal correspondence on the matter. Recently, I received an explanation from the Prosecutor General of Armenia stating that a complaint against the mentioned decision was filed by lawyer Garik Galikyan, and as a result of the consideration, a decision was made by the Kotayk prosecutor to reject the appeal. I have learned that the lawyer has also appealed the decisions of the investigator and the prosecutor in court. The next court hearing is scheduled for July 1 of this year.”
“What does this mean? The dragging of the bodies and remains of soldiers killed in the 44-day war while being thrown on the ground (disrespecting the remains) and keeping them without proper conditions in polyethylene bags in the basement has gone unpunished. Prosecutors and investigators see no crime in these actions. Meanwhile, the head of the relevant governmental body, Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan, only apologized for what had occurred.”
“I remember the words of Naira Margaryan, the mother of fallen soldier Zhiryair Margaryan, during our meeting, and I can hardly hold back tears: ‘I saw my son in a dream. It was an old building with white walls. I opened the door, and my son was sitting on the ground in a dark room. He said, “Mom, make my bed, I’m going to sleep, I’m tired and cold…”’ After this dream, the mother found her son’s remains on the ground at the Abovyan morgue in a bag… I will remain steadfast; those who have disrespected the remains of our heroes will be held accountable from bottom to top, at the very top.”
