Bagrat Yesayan is a political prisoner, the grounds for his detention are simply absent, says defense attorney
Bagrat Yesayan is a political prisoner, as the charges brought against him have no relation to his actions, and the grounds for his detention are simply absent. This was stated by his lawyer Vahe Yeprikyan in a post on his Facebook page.
“The motion to detain Bagrat Yesayan has already been submitted to the court by the investigator, and we are waiting for it to be assigned and for a hearing to be scheduled. Currently, there are two statements: 1. Bagrat Yesayan is a political prisoner because the charges against him are unrelated to his actions, and the grounds for his detention simply do not exist. 2. The disgraceful motion for detention under the same facts has already been applied to Gerasim Vardanyan and was even rejected on May 3 of this year, even under the conditions of legal lawlessness.”
The investigator's focus on detaining Bagrat Yesayan is motivated solely by political reasons, particularly considering that he is the director of “Yerevan Media” LLC, and this television channel has recently recorded a significant increase in viewership as it actively covers domestic political processes. Therefore, by attempting to deprive him of his freedom, the authorities that serve the enemy once again show their disregard for justice,” he noted.
