Transit Fees for Trucks in Georgia to Increase by 75%
Transit fees for trucks in Georgia will increase by 75%, rising from 200 lari to 350 lari. Jnews reports that changes have been made to the government’s respective decision.
The updated tariffs for freight carriers will come into effect on June 20, 2022. According to the existing law, only vehicles transporting goods from the area of sea ports to the nearest customs control zone within a 10 km radius, or vice versa, are exempt from this fee.
BM.ge states that the changes will ensure that Georgia’s revenues from cargo transit will increase by tens of millions of dollars. In the first quarter of 2022, the number of goods passing through the country via transit roads exceeded 116,000, while budget revenues amounted to 23.2 million lari. According to forecasts, at least 355,000 freight trucks will pass through Georgia in 2023, with total revenue expected to exceed 130 million lari.
