Pentagon Confirms Cooperation with Ukrainian Biolaboratories

The United States has provided support to Ukraine's biological research centers over the past 20 years, but all activities have been strictly peaceful in nature. This was announced on June 9 by the Pentagon's press service, as reported by RTVI.

The American side explained that assistance has been given to centers operating in various peaceful areas, including medicine and agriculture. “The United States has worked with Ukraine to enhance its biosafety and disease control in both humans and animals, supporting 46 peaceful Ukrainian laboratories, medical centers, and disease diagnostic centers over the past two decades. These joint programs have been aimed at improving public health and agricultural safety,” the military department’s message stated.

Pentagon officials emphasized that the U.S. is “proud to cooperate” with Ukrainian laboratories and provides assistance. Additionally, all collaborations comply with global and U.S. legal norms. “These institutions (i.e., in Ukraine) operate just like any other state or private health research laboratory around the world. Moreover, all equipment and expertise provided by the U.S. are subject to procedures and audits by U.S. export control agencies, ensuring transparency and compliance with U.S. and international legal requirements,” the statement highlighted.

Claims that the U.S. is involved in the development of biological weapons in Ukraine were made by Moscow in early March. Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov stated that Russian military forces had successfully detected and destroyed pathogens of cholera, anthrax, plague, tularemia, and other diseases. Igor Kirillov, head of the Russian Armed Forces’ radiation, chemical, and biological protection unit, noted that a whole network of biological laboratories had been established in Ukraine, operating for the Pentagon.
