Sundukyan Theater Responds to Controversial Posters
The management of the Sundukyan National Academic Theater has issued a statement regarding the posters for the performance titled "Залечь на дно в Ереване" featuring stars from "ТНТ" scheduled to take place in Yerevan. The poster showcases the show’s actors covering their naked bodies with Armenian lavash, which has sparked outrage in the Armenian community, with accusations of blasphemy and disrespect for Armenian values, particularly towards lavash. It has been noted that Armenian lavash is included in UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.
"Dear audience,
In connection with the promotional poster circulating on the internet, we feel it is necessary to clarify the following: a) The discussed performance has no connection to the repertoire of the Sundukyan National Academic Theater, b) When performances by other theater groups or stand-up shows take place at the theater on a contractual basis, their brief descriptions and promotional materials are coordinated with the theater. However, discussions regarding the organization of this performance have not reached the stage of signing a contract, therefore, the sketch of the poster has NOT BEEN PRESENTED and has NOT RECEIVED the theater's approval. For any inquiries, please contact us via official correspondence," reads the statement from the theater.
It is important to note that the organizers promise an event with an "intriguing plot, bold humor, and featuring stars from ТНТ's cult project 'Comedy Woman' such as Ekaterina Varnava, Natalia Yefrikyan, Alexander Gudkov, and Evgeny Borodenkov. Special guest: Arsen Grigoryan."
