Merger of 13 Consolidated Communities into 5 Planned, Says Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration

In Armenia, there are plans to merge 13 consolidated communities into 5. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Vache Terteryan, during discussions in parliament regarding the draft amendments to the law on the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia.

Terteryan presented the proposed structure resulting from the territorial changes: “In Aragatsotn province, the Talin community will unite the communities of Talin and Aragatavan. In Gegharkunik province, the Chambarak community will combine Chambarak and Shoghakath. In Lori province, the Alaverdi community will merge Alaverdi, Akhtala, Shnogh, and Odzun. In Lori province, the Tashir community will unite Tashir, Metsavan, and Sarchapet. In Syunik province, the Sisian community will consolidate Sisian and Gorayk,” Terteryan stated.

According to the Deputy Minister, as a result of this merger, the Talin community in Aragatsotn province will have a population of 37,600; Chambarak will have 15,000; Alaverdi will have 42,000; Tashir will have 18,000; and Sisian will have close to 31,500 residents.

Terteryan noted that due to the consolidation, communities have actively begun to submit subsidy program proposals.
