"A New Criminal Case Has Been Initiated Following My Letter": Tovmasyan on Police Actions

"A new criminal case has been initiated based on the materials prepared following my letter," stated Taguhi Tovmasyan, a member of the "We Have Honor" faction.

She specifically wrote: "On May 17, I addressed another letter to the Prosecutor General of Armenia regarding the actions of the police. I presented relevant references concerning the use of force by police officers against citizens participating in a demonstration. I also informed the Prosecutor about a report that police officers had abducted National Assembly member Tadevos Avetikyan without providing any legal justification.

I requested that this letter regarding the abduction of the National Assembly member be considered as a report of a crime and that competent authorities be instructed to investigate the actions of the police and take appropriate measures.

I received a letter from the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia stating that factual data have been obtained indicating that police officials, evidently exceeding their official powers, used violence to forcibly detain National Assembly member Tadevos Edikin Avetisyan during a peaceful civil disobedience action, resulting in physical pain for him," wrote MP Taguhi Tovmasyan.
