What is the Cause of the Mole Decline in Dilijan National Park? An Environmentalist Explains

In Dilijan National Park, the decline of moles is due to the chemical treatments being conducted by the Ministry of Environment. Environmentalist Silva Adamyan stated this in a conversation with NEWS.am.

“A few days ago, the ministry issued a statement that there would be chemical treatments in the park, and the entry of domestic animals was prohibited. The question arose as to what would happen to the wild animals. I am convinced that the decline of moles is a result of these chemical treatments. Primarily, these chemicals affect rodents. It’s quite surprising that after all this, the ministry is still trying to figure out the cause,” said Adamyan.

According to the environmentalist, the situation can only improve with heavy rainfall, which can wash away the chemicals. “Naturally, they calculated the treatment in such a way that little rain would fall. It is a fact that now all the animals in the area have felt the effects of the chemicals, and there could be negative impacts on all wildlife,” added Silva Adamyan.
