Babayan's Allies Appeal to Court
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports that former Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh, Samvel Babayan, has allegedly sought to have the criminal case against him shortened but was denied. Following this, he is attempting to achieve this through other means.
Back in February 2021, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Artsakh announced that, based on a report received from the Security Council, a criminal case was initiated on February 8, 2021, under Article 322, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code regarding the infliction of property damage to the state amounting to 100 million Armenian drams due to abuse of official powers in October 2020.
According to reports, during the days of the war, Samvel Babayan transferred the 100 million drams that were on the balance of the Security Council office he led to three individuals. After his resignation, law enforcement began investigating this case, which appears to have reached a decisive stage. This is the case that Babayan and his party members are attempting to shut down.
Some of his allies have even appealed to the court to reinstate themselves in their positions, from which they were dismissed by Vitaly Balasanyan, who replaced Babayan. It should be reminded that on December 4, 2020, the employees of the Security Council were informed that the newly appointed secretary, Vitaly Balasanyan, refused to maintain working relations with the staff formed under Samvel Babayan.
Out of the 50 staff members dismissed from the Security Council office, 29 have appealed to the court in an attempt to restore their positions and seek to sabotage the work of Vitaly Balasanyan's office from within.
