10 Arrested in Mass Disorders at the Proshyan-Demirchyan Intersection: Investigative Committee
The investigation into the mass disorders organized and participated in by the political opposition’s "Resistance" movement during a gathering on Proshyan Street in Yerevan on June 3, 2022, is ongoing at the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia. The Committee reports that the participants of the rally attempted to break through the police cordon at the Proshyan-Demirchyan intersection and reach the direction of Demirchyan Street towards the National Assembly of Armenia.
Ignoring the legal demands of the police, rally participants began to engage in mass disorders, attacking them with stones, metal rods, hammers, bottles, and other objects, using violence against the officers in an attempt to breach the police barrier, thus endangering public safety.
As a result of the actions of the participants in the mass disorder, more than forty police officers sustained varying degrees of physical injuries, with some requiring inpatient treatment. The actions of the participants in the mass disorder were halted and disrupted due to the intervention of police forces on duty at the site.
During the investigation, decisions were made to charge 15 individuals under Article 225, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Ten of these individuals have been placed under arrest, four have received non-custodial measures, and one has been charged with the aim of presenting to court for arrest.
The National Security Service of Armenia and relevant units of the Police are carrying out necessary measures to identify the organizers of the mass disorders and other participants, aimed at presenting them to the prosecuting authority. The investigation is ongoing.
