Police Officer Catches Thief in the North-South Corridor: Victim's Account

The police officers from the 3rd Battalion of the Patrol Service of the Armenian Police have uncovered yet another crime in Yerevan. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, on May 26, around midnight, the operational management center of the police received a call from 21-year-old Arman Sh. from Kotayk region, who reported that he had entered a Nissan vehicle whose driver asked him to push the car under the pretext of a breakdown. At that moment, the driver attempted to flee but was unsuccessful thanks to a young man.

On the same day, around 00:30, N. Muradyan, while heading home, noticed the Nissan vehicle with a citizen running after it. Recognizing that something was off, N. Muradyan pursued the Nissan and managed to apprehend the driver, subsequently taking him to the Mashtots division of the police.

It turned out that the driver was 22-year-old Karen A., a resident of Yerevan, who admitted that he attempted to steal Arman Sh's bag from his car. However, due to N. Muradyan's pursuit, the crime was not completed against his will.

According to G. Shamshyan, N. Muradyan works as a patrol officer in the 1st platoon of the 3rd Battalion of the Patrol Service of the Armenian Police and holds the rank of police lieutenant.

Note: The suspect or accused in an alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty under the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia pursuant to a legally binding court decision.
