Suren Surenyants: 'It was the government's dream to have such an opposition in the National Assembly'
Political scientist Suren Surenyants commented:
“It was the government's dream to have such an opposition in the National Assembly. Alen Simonyan spoke yesterday about the possibility of depriving the absent opposition members of their mandates. Formally, the government has such a possibility. However, I believe that from a political perspective, this is at least a meaningless step.
First, the performance of any deputy should be evaluated by the voter, and the way to do this is through elections. Using other mechanisms in this matter could create a bad political precedent.
And secondly, there is no guarantee that those lower on the proportional lists of the 'Armenia' and 'I Have Honor' alliances who would replace their current parliamentary colleagues are endowed with better political and professional qualities. I believe the opposite is true.
It was the government’s dream to have such an opposition in the National Assembly, and now there’s no need to create scenes.”
