EU May Ban Third Countries from Purchasing Oil from Russia, Says Polish Prime Minister
Members of the European Union are seeking to prohibit third countries from purchasing oil from Russia. This was announced by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during a press conference following the EU summit in Brussels, as reported by RBK.
“Poland and an increasing number of EU countries are openly discussing the so-called secondary sanctions. This primarily involves the possibility of imposing sanctions that would prevent Russian oil from being sold to third countries and EU member states,” Morawiecki stated.
During the first day of the summit, EU member countries reached an agreement on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia. The nations have agreed to impose a partial embargo on oil, which will affect the maritime supply of Russian oil. They have also agreed to disconnect Sberbank from SWIFT.
