Ukrainian Refugees in Bulgaria Protest Camp Conditions and Move to Private Hotel
A group of Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria have 'rebelled' against living in a state camp and have been temporarily relocated to a private hotel. This is reported by RT, citing Bulgaria's National Radio.
The 19 Ukrainian citizens stated that the camp, located in the Veliko Tarnovo region, where they were resettled from the coastal city of Varna, turned out to be uninhabitable. They 'revolted,' after which they were sent to a private hotel in Gorna Oryahovitsa.
One of the women in the group told the radio, "We came from Varna under a special program, but we were deceived. We were taken to a different place than what was promised. There was mold and dampness; it was impossible to stay there with children. We complained and were moved here. We don’t know what will happen next."
At the same time, the owner of the hotel where the Ukrainian citizens are staying said that she would only provide meals until June 1. "After that, we will only provide shelter for the night; we are not miracle workers to organize food for five leva (Bulgarian currency) a day," she stated.
