Armenian Boxers Stay in the Ring Until Dawn as Referees Review Fight

During the semifinals of the European Championship taking place in Yerevan, Armenian boxers remained in the ring until 4 AM, protesting against the referees' decision. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia.

Members of the Armenian Boxing Federation and the tournament organizers also stayed at the Karen Demirchyan Sports Complex with the athletes. Additionally, members of the Ukrainian delegation expressed their dissatisfaction with the referees' decisions.

As a result of the boycott, the referees were compelled to review the videos of both the Armenian and Ukrainian boxers' matches.

It is noteworthy that on May 29, in the semifinals, Armenian boxer Narek Manasyan faced Spanish fighter Emanuel Reyes, to whom the referees awarded victory. After the first round, the referees favored the Armenian boxer, but in the second and third rounds, they sided with the Spaniard (1:4, 0:5).

Feeling unhappy with the referees' decision, Manasyan and the Armenian team refused to leave the ring, threatening to boycott the final day of the championship.

The Ukrainian delegation also entered the ring, dissatisfied with the referees' decisions regarding the fight between Ukrainian boxer Yuriy Zakharayev and British boxer Mohamed Harris Akbari.

Sources from the Federation have informed Sputnik Armenia that no final decision has yet been made regarding the contested matches. The final bouts are scheduled to start today at 17:00, and in the meantime, referees will have to decide on the participants of the finals.
