Turkey to Engage in Oil Exploration Near Syrian Border

The Turkish state oil company TPAO has obtained a five-year license for oil exploration in the provinces of Mardin and Şırnak, bordering Syria. The relevant decision from Turkey's Ministry of Energy was published on Sunday in the official government gazette.

According to reports from Armenpress, citing TASS, the oil exploration will take place over an area of 12,062 hectares. A mineral deposit was discovered last year in the Nusaybin district of Mardin province in southeastern Turkey. TPAO previously reported that during the exploration of the 'Guneyurda-1' drilling site in Nusaybin, a heavy oil deposit was found with a density of 11.8 degrees on the API scale. No information about the potential reserves has been disclosed in the public domain. Additionally, the exact location of TPAO's geological exploration activities in Şırnak province has not been clarified.
