Tehran and Athens Relations Should Not Be Disrupted by Third Party's Short-sighted and Erroneous Calculations, Says Iran's Foreign Ministry

The official representative of Iran's Foreign Ministry, Saeed Khatibzadeh, stated that Tehran and Athens have consistently maintained their long-standing ties based on mutual respect, which should not be impeded by third-party short-sighted and erroneous calculations, according to Mehr.

“Our relations should not be disrupted by deeply shortsighted and erroneous calculations, including the highway robbery that occurred at the behest of a third party,” Khatibzadeh wrote on Twitter, referring to the United States.

He added that Iran's long-standing relations with Greece and its people have always been based on mutual respect.

The representative of Iran's Foreign Ministry also confirmed that the crew members of the two Greek seized tankers “are safe.”

Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization stated on Saturday that the crews of the two Greek oil tankers intercepted by Iran's “Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps” in the Persian Gulf are not detained, but are aboard the ships and are in good condition.

It has been reported that the two tankers were seized due to violations of maritime navigation rules and emphasized that the issue is being investigated based on documents and evidence.

Earlier, the IRGC had announced that two Greek oil tankers were intercepted in the Persian Gulf due to violations. Days prior, a Persian tanker had been seized by Greece in its territorial waters, while the oil being transported was headed to the United States.
