Armenian General Prosecutor Appeals to Russian Prosecutor for Award
According to the newspaper "Zhoghovurd", General Prosecutor Arthur Davtyan has recently made a request to the Chief Prosecutor of the Russian Federation, Igor Krasnov. As reported by the newspaper, Davtyan has asked his Russian counterpart to grant him a "Cooperation" medal, which he plans to use for the right purpose in the future.
In response to our inquiry, the prosecutor's advisor, Gor Abrahamyan, stated, "This is an absolute fabrication and has no connection to reality." It should be noted that the commemorative medal for cooperation could be useful for Davtyan, whose term is expiring, in order to pursue his career further in Russia. While it is unclear whether the Armenian General Prosecutor will have the desire or opportunity for reappointment, our sources indicate that the authorities are considering a different candidate for this position.
On January 12 of this year, the Armenian General Prosecutor's Office issued a statement that Russian President Vladimir Putin had awarded the Armenian General Prosecutor with a commemorative medal for the "300th anniversary of the Russian Prosecutor's Office." Readers of the announcement may have gotten the impression that Vladimir Putin personally awarded only Davtyan; however, similar commemorative medals have been awarded to more than 3000 prosecutors.
The decree signed by President Putin on April 20, 2021, outlines who is to be awarded the commemorative medal for the "300th anniversary of the Russian Prosecutor's Office," including individuals from both Russia and former Soviet countries with long-term work experience within the system. Thus, this type of medal has been awarded to many others, in addition to Davtyan, totaling around 3000 individuals. Now, the Armenian prosecutor seeks separate attention and a medal for himself.
