Aliyev on Relations with Armenia
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has confirmed Baku's commitment and readiness to conclude a peace treaty with Armenia, according to Azerbaijani news agencies.
“Today we discussed the situation in the region and the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. I know that after your visit to Azerbaijan, you (the President of Lithuania - I.F.) will visit Armenia. Thus, I am confident that after the visit, you will form a complete opinion. Our position is very clear. We want to sign a peace treaty with Armenia. We want to normalize relations and turn the page of enmity,” Aliyev said on Wednesday during talks with his Lithuanian counterpart, Gitanas Nausėda in Baku.
It is worth noting that Azerbaijani troops have been stationed in the sovereign territory of Armenia for a year and have not withdrawn, yet Aliyev speaks of turning the page on enmity against this backdrop.
