Hong Kong Considers Possible Block of Telegram

Hong Kong authorities are considering a possible ban on the Telegram messenger. This was reported by Gazeta, citing Bloomberg.

The decision to completely restrict access to the service is due to the dissemination of personal data of state officials and individuals without their consent on Telegram. This practice is known as doxxing, which involves the revealing of identifying information about individuals (such as name, address, workplace, phone number, and other personal details).

A representative from the messenger stated that doxxing is not permitted on Telegram and that all personal data published without an individual’s consent is deleted.

Experts interviewed by the portal note that this solution could be one of the steps toward complete control of the Internet in that region, similar practices have been implemented across China.
