CSTO Leaders Issue Joint Statement: Details

The leaders of the CSTO have issued a joint statement on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty and the 20th anniversary of the organization. Here are the main points:

We express satisfaction with the level of our foreign policy coordination on key points of the global and regional agendas.

The situation in Afghanistan and along the CSTO’s other external borders is concerning; we express our readiness to ensure the security of borders.

We are seriously concerned about trends towards the use of force in crises, and the threat of using force for conflict resolution, in violation of the UN Charter.

We are worried about the selective application of international law, where the legitimate interests of sovereign countries are disregarded, internal affairs are interfered with, unilateral sanctions are imposed, double standards are applied, and hatred and intolerance are displayed.

We emphasize the importance of reducing tensions in the region and reaffirm our readiness to establish cooperation with NATO.

We decisively condemn any attempt to distort historical events related to our contribution in countering Nazi aggression. We express serious concern about attempts to ban symbols associated with the victory over Nazism.

Earlier, we reported that on May 16, a summit of the member countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will take place in Moscow, which will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It is noteworthy that Armenia is currently presiding over the CSTO.
