Video: European Arm Wrestling Champion Comments on Azerbaijani Athlete's Failed Attempt
The European Arm Wrestling Championship is currently taking place in Bucharest, Romania. Armenia is participating with a team of 11 members. Today, footage was shared online showing Armenian team member Armen Adamyan winning the championship in the 65 kg weight category after defeating a Turkish opponent.
In an interview with ArmDaily.am, Adamyan revealed that he defeated an Azerbaijani athlete in the semifinals and a Turkish athlete in the finals, thus becoming the champion. He stated, "It is a great honor for a sportsman to uphold the dignity of our Armenian nation, especially when on one side there is an Azerbaijani and on the other side a Turk. I won against the Azerbaijani in the semifinals and defeated the Turk in the finals, thereby becoming the eight-time European champion and winning a gold medal."
Adamyan noted that he competes in the 65 kg weight category, is 29 years old, and executed the winning move with his left hand. He is also a seven-time world champion, now adding the title of eight-time European champion to his accomplishments.
Regarding an incident where the Azerbaijani athlete attempted to cover the Armenian flag by standing on his toes, Adamyan remarked, "It is clear that he wanted to show something, to cover it up, but he couldn’t change the foundation—everything is clear from the foundation itself." He added that the Azerbaijani athlete's actions elicited smiles and smirks among the spectators, giving off an impression of unseriousness.
