"Wait, I will return": Recently Captured Soldier Sends Letter to Parents
17 days ago, Eduard Martirosov, a soldier who crossed the border from the Nerkhin Hand village positions in Syunik and was captured, sent a letter to his parents. Azatutyun.am reports.
“What can he say, it’s normal, there is food, there is water, wait for me, that’s all,” said the soldier’s father, Arthur Martirosov, to Azatutyun.
The 19-year-old soldier was visited in Baku and given the opportunity to connect with his family through a letter by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Meetings will also take place, as is the case with other captured individuals, said Zara Amatuni, head of the committee's communication programs.
“It is important to focus on the treatment of that individual, the conditions of detention, and their health status, but we cannot share details with the public regarding the substantive part,” Amatuni said.
Conscription service member Eduard Martirosov had served for 3.5 months, and it is currently unknown under what circumstances he ended up in Azerbaijan. The combat post in Nerkhin Hand, from where the private disappeared, is near Azerbaijani positions.
The Strasbourg court has obliged Azerbaijan to provide information regarding the soldier, said Hasmik Samvelyan, press secretary for Armenia's representative on international legal issues.
“On May 9, the court made a decision to send a notification to Azerbaijan, demanding information about where he is being held, under what conditions, to provide medical documents if any exist, and what plans exist for his return,” Samvelyan conveyed.
Azerbaijan must respond to the court’s inquiries by May 17.
Currently, 38 Armenian prisoners of war are officially confirmed to be held in Baku prisons. Azerbaijan has yet to confirm the fact of Martirosov's capture. The family is counting the days.
“I know that it will be fine, but when, I don’t know,” Arthur Martirosov said.
