Clashes and Insults: Turmoil in the Syunik Community of Tegh

The newspaper "Hraparak" reports that early mornings in the Syunik region's Tegh community are anything but peaceful. Recently, clashes occurred between the community leader, his supporters, and opposition council member Masis Zeynalyan. Zeynalyan has repeatedly pointed out the shortcomings of community leader Davit Ghulunts.

Ghulunts is notably the nephew of former Syunik Governor Melikset Poghosyan. The incident stemmed from a meeting Zeynalyan had with the newly appointed governor from Kapan, Robert, where he presented the current situation in the community. “I told the governor to relieve the pensioners and appoint young people; we also want to work. Ghulunts has appointed his uncle, mother, and other relatives to community positions,” Zeynalyan recounted.

“Of course, I didn’t give names to the governor, but his advisor Surik came to me asking why I complained, and then there was a scuffle with sexual insults. His deputy Armik Mirzoyan and Ghulunts were also present,” Zeynalyan added. He stated that he has not reported the incident to the police and has gone on a hunger strike under a tree at the community hall demanding Ghulunts' resignation, saying, “He claims I’m mentally unstable; I request an investigation to determine who is insane—me or Ghulunts, who receives military reserve pension without serving in the army. What’s the basis for this? Let them determine; his support comes from his uncle, and he thinks he is untouchable. His brother is also threatening me, saying that where I am, I shouldn't be, just because I raised questions about their mines with the governor.”

Ghulunts did not respond to our calls yesterday.
