Aliyev Speaks Again on Peace Agreement with Armenia and Baku's Principles

The principles proposed by Azerbaijan for Armenia should serve as the basis for a peace agreement, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. “We advocate for a peaceful agenda in the South Caucasus,” he emphasized.

According to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the proposed principles are as follows:

  1. Mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of international borders, and political independence.
  2. Mutual confirmation of the legal obligation to refrain from territorial claims against each other and not to present such claims in the future.
  3. Refraining from threatening each other's security in inter-state relations, threats against political independence and territorial integrity, use of force, and other circumstances incompatible with the objectives of the UN Charter.
  4. Demarcation and delimitation of state borders, establishment of diplomatic relations.
  5. Opening of transport and communications, establishment of other communications, and cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
